Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin from 19th September and finally, there is something every Indian can feel happy about. Ever since the lockdown began in India, one thing that every cricket enthusiast was worried about was that whether IPL will take place or not however the good news came to all the fans on 2nd August 2020 when BCCI announced that IPL would be played in UAE (the United Arab Emirates). The announcement of IPL has surely kicked in the festive mood of India. Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league played in India every year by eight teams representing eight different cities in India. The tournament founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008 has a huge fan base not only in India but also in foreign countries.

Every year players from different countries come together to play the tournament and this is one of the most-attended cricket leagues in the world. Till now 12 seasons of IPL have been hosted with Mumbai Indians as the current champions. IPL is a double robin round-robin type tournament where each team, consisting of Indian as well as overseas players, meets every other team twice during the tournament. IPL was initially scheduled to commence from 29th March but because of the coronavirus, the outbreak and imposition of nationwide lockdown made BCCI postpone IPL for an indefinite period.

This is the third time that IPL will be hosted overseas, the first two times being in South Africa and UAE in 209 and 2014 respectively. The tournament will start with Mumbai Indians (led by Rohit Sharma) facing Chennai Super Kings (led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni).

This year’s IPL would be special for every cricket fan not only will it mark the resumption of cricket but also fans will again witness their favourite players in action. The spotlight, this IPL, would be on MS Dhoni and Suresh as they both announced their retirement from international cricket recently. Moreover, the beginning of IPL will add excitement, joy, and positivity to the monotonous lives of every sports enthusiast.
